Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, Oct. 20, 2014)
"I wish I could tell you how cool this is."With those words uttered by his best friend during an online chat, Austin Stone, a high school senior, forces himself to accept the fact his friends are leaving him behind. With average grades, less than stellar play in baseball, and a single mother struggling to make ends meet, it looks as if Austin’s only way to continue his education would be through some kind of miracle. His only escape is playing an online space simulation, Star Runners. It seems to be the only environment in which he excels. However, being a champion Trident Starfighter isn’t something you want to brag about in public nor will it help earn a scholarship. But as soon as Austin is about to give up on college he reaches the top of the elite server. He receives an invitation from a school shrouded in secrecy promising to unlock his hidden potential. With no other options, Austin takes the offer. What he doesn’t realize is that his dream of going to college has just opened up the cosmos and will challenge everything he thinks he knows about himself and the universe. This book is a light sci-fi YA adventure story.

  • The History of Sandford and Merton

    Thomas Day

Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, May 6, 2016)
The History of Sandford and Merton (1783-1789) was a bestselling children's book written by Thomas Day. He began it as a contribution to Richard Lovell and Honora Edgeworth’s Harry and Lucy, a collection of short stories for children that Maria Edgeworth continued some years after Honora died. He eventually expanded his original short story into the first volume of The History of Sandford and Merton, which was published anonymously in 1783; two further volumes subsequently followed in 1786 and 1789. The book was wildly successful and was reprinted until the end of the nineteenth century. It retained enough popularity or invoked enough nostalgia at the end of the nineteenth century to inspire a satire, The New History of Sandford and Merton, whose preface proudly announces that it will “teach you what to don’t.”

It retained enough popularity or invoked enough nostalgia at the end of the nineteenth century to inspire a satire, The New History of Sandford and Merton, whose preface proudly announces that it will “teach you what to don’t.” The History of Sandford and Merton is not a "history" in the modern sense but rather an assemblage of stories. Day both wrote himself and extracted from a multitude of sources. That is only nominally held together by a thread narrative. Follows the reformation of Tommy Merton who is transformed from a spoiled six-year-old boy into a virtuous gentleman. Tommy, having been pampered and indulged by his mother and their slaves in the West Indies, is a proud and ignorant aristocrat; he lacks the sterling qualities of “plain, honest” Henry Sandford, the yeoman farmer’s son, who becomes his model and mentor in the book.

    Thomas Day

Paperback (Dodo Press, May 2, 2008)
Thomas Day (1748-1789), was a British author. He is most well-known for the children's book The History of Sandford and Merton (1783-1789) which emphasized Rousseauvian educational ideals. In 1773, Day published his first work- The Dying Negro, a poem he had written with John Bicknell that tells the horrifying story of a runaway slave. It was a bestseller and one of the first pieces of literature in the campaign to abolish the slave trade in Britain. Three years later, Day argued for the rights of the American colonists in his poem The Devoted Legions (1776) and in 1780 he argued in Parliament for an early peace with the revolutionaries as well as parliamentary reform. His speeches were also published as pamphlets. But it was as a writer for children that Day made his reputation. The History of Little Jack (1787) was extremely popular, but it could not match the sales of The History of Sandford and Merton which was a bestseller for over a hundred years.
